The Mother of Invention

Hey. This is Jeff Tomaszewski, Chief Life Transformer at MaxStrength Fitness and I have a story to share with you today.

One day a small child named Thomas Edison came home from school and he gave a paper to his mother. He said to her, “Mom. My teacher gave me this paper to give to you and he told me not to read it and only you’re allowed to do so. But, I’ve got to know. What does it say?” Her eyes welled up with tears and she read the letter out loud to her child, “Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and doesn’t have good enough teachers to train him. Please teach him yourself.”

Many years later, Edison’s mother had passed away and then, as we know, he became one of the greatest inventors of the century. One day Edison was going through his closet and he found the folded up letter that his teacher had given to his mother and that she had read that day. And when he opened it up, it was a drastically different story. The message written on the letter said, “Your son is mentally deficient. We can not let him attend our school anymore. He is expelled.”

Edison became emotional reading the letter and then he wrote in his diary. Thomas A. Edison was a mentally deficient child whose mother turned him into the genius of the century.

Look. A positive word of encouragement can help change anybody’s destiny. And if somebody’s telling you a story that doesn’t fit with your belief system or who you want to become, don’t buy into it. Change the story. You can become whoever, whatever you desire to be just like Edison did that day. So if you know of maybe somebody struggling and they’re not on the right path and you know where they want to get to, maybe, perhaps, use Edison’s mom’s approach and change the story for them. Give them those words of encouragement. Be there and be supportive of them, but do not let somebody else dictate your future. Thanks.
