I wanted to let you know that me and three of my great friends Rob Gardner, Ric Selby, and Jim Fox have volunteered this year to participate in year ‘s Dancing Under the Stars event (Think Dancing With The Stars on TV) on Friday, August 2, at LaMalfa in Mentor Ohio.
Last year Dancing Under the Stars celebrated it’s 10th Anniversary! In the last 10 years, they’ve had 108 Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula area celebrities compete for our awards and raise valuable funds for local agencies—11 of these brave celebrities even danced a second time in the 2014 All Star Event. Since 2009, they’ve had 53 local professional dancers supporting the celebrities. And thanks to their efforts, this event has raised over $416,000 since 2009!
This year Dancing Under the Stars is supporting Lifeline, Inc. and the Family Planning Association of Northeast Ohio, a division of Signature Health. Lifeline and Family Planning are two organizations serving residents to enrich their quality of life. Lifeline is our local community action agency, which leads the community in the fight against poverty by offering programs and opportunities to empower our residents to achieve self-sufficiency. Family Planning provides communities (Ashtabula, Geauga, & Lake Counties) with medical services, counseling, and education related to sexual and reproductive health care.
Due to the economic crisis facing the county 11 years ago, there was a new face of need within our communities. More middle class families were finding themselves without healthcare and in jeopardy of losing their homes through foreclosures. These organizations teamed up in an effort to expand the capacity for fun development. Dancing Under the Stars is a Premier event to address the continued need for funding to meet community needs. Dancing Under the Stars invites up to 12 community, civic, political, and corporate celebrities (like me) who will attempt to outshine one another in a dance contest. The event is an elegant evening of food, fun, and dancing!
